Fear the Lord – Samuel Dhinakaran

“The fear of the LORD leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.” (Proverbs 19:23) 
Dear friend, I am sure you are going to have a great day with the Lord. The promise for today is from Proverbs 19:23 where we read, ““The fear of the LORD leads to life”. Truly the fear of the Lord is the foundation to our life. It is something that should surely be within us. It leads to the life in Jesus. It leads to the life-giving power of Christ. What is this fear of the Lord? We read in Deuteronomy 10:12,13, “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?” To fear the Lord is to walk in obedience to Him, to love Him and serve with all our heart.

We also read that the fear of the Lord is to revere Him and to be in awe of Him (Psalm 33:8). It is worshipping God in His glory. It is honouring the Lord for His might and strength. In Proverbs 8:13 the Bible also says, “To fear the LORD is to hate evil.” It is to absolutely hate evil things. All these verses show us what it is to fear the Lord. It is to honour Him and hate everything that is impure and sinful in God’s eyes. Only if we fear God, we will be able to walk with the Lord and be led to the life that is in Him.

When we walk in the fear of the Lord no trouble will overcome us (Proverbs 19:23). No harm shall touch us. Our heart will be at rest because when we see how big the Lord is and when we worship Him, God will fill us with His presence and peace. We will find rest in God. No trouble is ever bigger than God so when we fix our attention on Him, we will receive peace. For example, when you haven’t equipped yourself for the exam you will feel scared. But once you start studying and familiarise with the content, the fear goes away. Similarly, in life’s exams, once we know the Lord and revere Him all our fears will be removed. We will no longer be troubled by life’s problems and we will also be untouched by trouble. 

Prayer:
Lord Jesus,

Please teach me how to fear You and walk in obedience with You. Give me grace to love You and serve You with all my heart. Let me always hate evil and always honour You. Help me worship You and let me never be troubled by any problem of this world. Let my heart be always at rest. Lead me into the life that is in You. Fill me with Your great peace.
