Humbleness will bring honour – Samuel Dhinakaran
“The LORD sustains the humble” (Psalm 147:6)
Today’s promise is short but it has a strong truth hidden in it. The Lord sustains the humble (Psalm 147:6). This is a very important truth God wants us to know. It is an important characteristic God wants us to have, it is humility that God loves so much. A humble person who serves God and serves people is God’s favourite. My parents and grandparents always tell me, “Sam, you should always be humble.” I am asking God for that grace and I am seeing how much a humble prayer opens the heart of God. Even while ministering or even in my personal prayers, the Lord answers the humble prayers instead of a prideful prayer.
God hates listening to prideful people and prideful prayers. Prayers where people say, “Lord, I have done this. I am a great accomplished man. So you have to reward me.” Demanding God wages for the work we do is being proud. It is God’s grace that we are able to do what we do even if it is for Him. If God doesn’t help us we would accomplish nothing. It is because of His grace that He blesses us. It is because of His love and mercy that the Lord hears us and He answers us. We cannot boast about anything. Who are we to boast before an Almighty God? Yes my friends, God wants us to be humble. The Bible says, “God opposes the proudbut shows favour to the humble.” Proverbs 3:34 says, “He mocks proud mockers but shows favour to the humble and oppressed.”
If you are a proud person humiliating someone in your class or in your workplace or you are in a gang where they target one person and humiliate him/her, God will mock at you. At the same time, God shows favour to the humble. If we love people and help them and say some loving words, encouraging words toward them, the Lord will show favour to us. This is how we gain the favour of God. We will then gain the blessings of God, so let us ask God to give us such a humble spirit even today. He will then sustain us who are humble before Him. He will honour us at the right time. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time (1 Peter 5:6). Yes, at the right time God will reward us with honour for our humbleness.
Prayer:
Loving Lord Jesus,
Please give me a humble heart today to love You Lord and to fall before You in prayer. Lord, I hold on to You and humbly ask to show mercy to me, be gracious unto me. Love me and provide for me. Let my prayers be with a humble Spirit. I confess my sins to You. Forgive them Lord. Help me to help people with a humble Spirit. Help me to always encourage people. Help me to share Your love and Your Gospel with people. Give me the grace to do everything with a humble mind. Let my thoughts also be humble. Take away every prideful way of living in me. Take away every prideful thought and emotion from my life. I don’t want You to oppose me Lord. I want You to hear me Lord and be merciful to me. Let this character be shown in my life.
In Your name I pray, Amen.
