Ever-Present Protector! -Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
“For I, says the LORD, will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.” (Zechariah 2:5)
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). He will rescue us from every trap and protect us from all fatal diseases. He is a God who went till the cross to protect us. He assures us saying, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze” (Isaiah 43.2). God will not leave us on our own when we face troubles. He will never let us go through something alone and something in which He is not present with us. He himself will be with us so that what threatens us will tremble at Him. Nothing can scare us when the Saviour is with us.
In the Old Testament, we see the king of Syria sending his army against Elisha the prophet. The enemies came by night and surrounded the city. The servant of Elisha was frightened at the sight of the army and cried out to his master. “Alas! My master what shall we do?” So Elisha prayed to the Lord to open the eyes of his servant. Then the Lord opened his eyes and he saw that the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around him. No one could lay hands on him and the Lord struck the eyes of the Syrians, with blindness. Thus, Elisha stood all alone and conquered the kingdom.
My friend, whatever safety measures you take to protect yourself in this world can never be permanently effective. It’s because the devil is the prince of the world and he roams about waiting to devour the people. So when you protect yourself by worldly means, it is of no use. But God has promised you, “My child, if I enter into a house, I will put a hedge around the house and dwell amidst them.” God Himself will surround you as He surrounds Jerusalem (Psalm 125:2) and guard you from all destruction. No matter what happens around you nothing can happen within you. You will be unshaken because you have got the Lord always at your right hand (Psalm 16:8). Don’t fear hearing the news or looking at what’s happening to people around you. God will save you and save them through you. You will be protected and be the reason God protects the place where you are.
Prayer:
Loving Lord,
Thank You for the word You spoke to me today. Father, there are many in this world who rise against me. No matter how far I run away, they keep hurting me. Father, today I commit myself into Your hands. Let not my enemies overcome me. Let not this trouble continue to haunt me. Deliver me and save me. You alone are my Protector and I look to You for help. Help me witness your deliverance.
This I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
