You will overcome! – Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
“And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” (Psalm 50:15)
The only way to escape from the temptations of this world is by praying to God for protection every day. Just as Jesus taught us in the Lord’s Prayer we should pray every day saying, “Lord, lead me not into temptation but deliver me from all evil” (Matthew 6:13). The world is filled with temptations because the devil is the prince of this world. We read, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Yes, the devil roams around seeking if he can devour us so we should be careful that we stick to God and stay away from the sins that rise up around us like a flood by getting filled with the Spirit of God.
Let’s see the testimony of a brother called Philomen from Chhattisgarh. “I used to follow Christ. But I began to take alcohol and drugs. In due course I became an alcoholic. I started using drugs five times a day. Also I used to encourage others to use drugs. I used to leave my job and go for drinking. So I went far away from the Lord. During the prayer time, Dr.Paul Dhinakaran said, “I see a name Philomen; you were once following the Lord. Now you are an addict. Philomen, the Lord is delivering you. When you pray to Him, He will deliver you”. That time the Lord filled me fully. I did not touch alcohol or drugs till the next night. I feel a complete deliverance.” The Lord who delivered the brother will deliver you too. God will give you His power to overcome your desires.
We read in the Bible, “For everything in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–comes not from the Father but from the world” (1 John 2:16). We should identify where our desires come from. We should recognise the intentions of our desires and flee from what is not from God. “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). We are not being tempted by God; we are tempted because of the weak nature in us that causes us to sin. So we should run to God and depend on His strength to overcome our weaknesses. Running to God is getting filled with His anointing by meditating on the Word of God. As we store God’s Word in our heart we will be reminded by the Holy Spirit as to how we should talk, what we should do and how we should conduct ourselves. We will not sway away from the path of God if we read God’s Word, meditate on it and pray claiming the righteousness of God. Make your mind to spend time in meditating on the Word of God and nothing shall cause you to stumble.
Prayer:
Loving heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding me that You want me to walk in victory over my weaknesses. Lord, give me grace to read Your Word and store it in my heart that I might not sin against You. Lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I run away from everything that tempts me.
I ask this in Jesus name, Amen.
