SEEK GOD AND DO GOOD! – Shilpa Dhinakaran

“Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.” (Amos 5:14)
The world may be full of evil and full of corruption but the Lord tells us to seek good in this world. Whatever situations we may be in we have to act like a child of God. May be you have to take hard decisions in your life remember the Lord is Your God and try to please Him in whatever path you choose to follow.  Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). People might do wrong things to you and accuse you of things you have never done ad it might be difficult for you to even forgive those people but God says to you that you should do them good so that they will see God in you. 

There is a famous quote by Mother Teresa which I like a lot and let me share it with you. She writes, “People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centred. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway. If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway. What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway. Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway. In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”

In the Bible we see how Kind David overcame evil with good. Once King Saul who was jealous of David tried to kill him several times. Once he heard that David was in the desert and so he pursued him. On the way he went into a cave to take rest not knowing that David was in that cave too. David knew that God had given his enemy into his hands to deal with him as he wished but David feared God and he did not want to do evil to King Saul so he crept near him cut the corner or his robe and then honouring Saul as God’s anointed one he explained to Saul how he had not killed him though his life was in David’s hands. Through this act Saul understood that David was more righteous than him and understood that God was with him. This is how we show people that we are God’s children and that God is with us. When we do good people who treat us bad will also realise their mistake one day and turn to do good.

Loving Father,

Thank You for reminding me to stay innocent in this wicked world. Lord, at all costs let me seek good and let me always do good. I understand that everything I do is between me and You and that I am accountable to You. So let Your righteousness always lead me on the right path. Let me not be offended by the bad that people do to me. You teach them that I am Your child through my love for them. I ask this in Jesus Name, Amen.
