Cling on to God! – Sis. Stella Dhinakaran
“Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.” (Psalm 2:12)
The word ‘cling’ means to hold tightly or grip tightly to something. In this bad world we get to hear about many threatening news. Even amidst Christians we see bitter envy and selfish ambition in the hearts of people and we also see lying lips, hatred and corrupt nature (James 3:14-16). The reason for such a life is because there no inclination to cling on to God’s word and godly ways and a desire to live a godly life. There is not even little desire to seek God. If we live such lives how can we expect God to be gracious to us?
In the Bible we read about two godly men named Enoch and Noah. Enoch and Noah walked with God (Genesis 5:24, 6:9). Abraham was a friend of God (James 2:23, Isaiah 41:8). Prophet Moses waited in the presence of the Lord for 40 days and 40 nights (Exodus 34:28). This is how we cling to God in our life. We can see many such people in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, we see how Mary the mother of Jesus held on to God and received the favour of God and was called the blessed one among women (Luke 1:28, 42). We also read of a woman who lived a sinful life which was away from the ways of God. She came to Jesus with an alabaster jar of perfume. As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. Seeing her loving act Jesus was filled with joy and he said, “Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. Your sins are forgiven. Your faith has saved you; go in peace” (Luke 7:37-50). This is the blessing we get when we unite ourselves with God.
When children cross the roads their parents usually tell them this one thing, “hold my hand tightly” and they immediately hold on to their hands tightly. This is called a monitor lizard’s grip. If the lizard grips something it will not leave it no matter what. In the same way let us also hold tightly to our God. If we do so we will see God’s miracles in our life. God’s plan will also happen in our lives. Our lives will become a testimony before others. This is a true Christian life. The Bible says, “Blessed are all who take refuge in him” (Psalm 2:12). Let us also cling on to God night and day like the godly men of the Bible and wait on the Lord and receive His blessings in our lives.
Prayer:
Loving God,
Thank You for teaching me about holding on to you tightly. Give me the grace to read Your Word and pray every day. Give me a life to live a life that is united with You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit in an overflowing way. Be my Redeemer and lead me in Your ways. Let Your presence be with me and in my house always. I ask this Heavenly Father in Jesus precious name, Amen.
