Do good! – Sis. Stella Dhinakaran
“Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galatians 6:9)
Doing good” is a delight in the sight of the Lord. He loves it. Yes! God delights in us when we try to do “good” to others through His grace. When we pray to Him to grant us such a godly mind to do good to others, the Lord shall bless us according to the verse, “everyone who asks receives” (Matthew 7:8). Yes! The Lord gives us the grace to do good deeds in our lives. The Bible says, ” he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone” (Titus 3:5,8). God saves us out of His grace in order to do good.
There was a certain woman who was always happy and cheerful. One day when she was sad, a poor mother visited her. The poor lady was surprised to see her like that and she asked the woman, “I have never seen you so depressed like this. What has happened to you?” The poor friend did not stop with that. She thrust a two rupee note into the woman’s hands and left the place. It was the only amount she had in her hand at that time. Yes! That was the amount the woman wanted at that time and it made her glad. But how good was the poor mother who gave all that she had! Yes! This is the ‘mind to do good’, for she did this without expecting anything in return. When we do good to those in distress and comfort them, the Lord will surely be glad with us and bless us abundantly!
Dearly beloved! If you have been hard hearted and have not done any good deeds in your life till today, start doing something good from now on. Do good without becoming weary. The Lord will bless you in a manifold measure. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:2-10). When God saved Zacchaeus, it turned his life inside out and made him to do good things for others. This is how God’s salvation transforms our lives so that we engage only in good things after that.
Prayer:
Mighty Saviour!
From today onwards, give me Your divine mind that does good to others. According to Your Word, give me the grace to do good without getting weary. Help me to do works that are profitable and excellent in Your sight. Let me bring joy to Your heart by responding to Your word and by walking by it.
In Jesus’ name I plead with tears O Father,
Amen.
