Fear God! – Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
“For in the multitude of dreams and many words there is also vanity. But fear God.” (Ecclesiastes 5:7)
The question ‘Do dreams have deep meaning?’, some answer with a yes and others with a no. Doctors say when we are in unconscious state, the deepest desires and wants we have get expressed in the form of dreams. Not everything we dream of get fulfilled in real life. God’s Word says, ‘Much dreaming and many words are meaningless. Therefore fear God’ (Ecclesiastes 5:7). So do not fear about the bad dreams you get, instead surrender them to the Lord and fear Him alone. God is with you.
When I was 7 years old, my father Bro. D.G.S. Dhinakaran’s lungs were so severely infected to the point that he would vomit blood, while coughing. Every night I would have a dreadful dream. In that dream, I would see the body of my father kept in a coffin in the school where I studied. Musicians with various instruments will be playing solemn tunes. I would wake up terrified, scream and tightly embrace my father. Every night I would repeatedly have this dream. So, whenever I return from school, I would fearfully look around for people playing musical instruments near my house. It was even worse to hear God’s servants uttering false prophecies. They would tell my father, “Brother, you are nearing death. The Lord Himself revealed to me that your ministry has come to an end.” On the contrary, my father was healed; he lived long and completed his ministry successfully travelling around the world.
Are such dreams frightening you as well? Do doctors or your relatives say you won’t live long? Do such words disturb your sleep? The Bible says, ‘A dream comes when there are many cares’ (Ecclesiastes 5:3). The words that come from people might be words that trouble us. But God has said, ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand’ (Isaiah 41:10). Because you fear God you do not have to fear anything else. ‘They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven’ (Deuteronomy 28:7). This is the blessing that belongs to God’s children. ‘You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, neither the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways’ (Psalms 91:5,6,11). All that you need to do is to ‘fear God’.
Prayer:
Loving Father in heaven,
Thank You for talking to me through Your word. Please see my tears and listen to my prayers that rise from a broken heart and remove all my weaknesses. Please change my sickbed. Remove every bad word that people speak of me and every bad dream from my life. Fill me with good dreams. Give me grace to fear You. Give me a sweet sleep each night.
In Jesus name I pray,
Amen!
