Love your enemies! – Bro. D.G.S Dhinakaran
“Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you” (Luke 6:28)
Every believer is positioned to righteous because we were placed by Christ through His salvation. We are acknowledged with Him by our faith. But living a life of righteousness, reflecting God’s love to others is hard with our own strength. Just think, when was the last time your friend pointed out your flaws? One of your weaknesses most of the time, a good friend doesn’t do it. But it is not so with enemies. An enemy always watches over your actions and makes you sin against God. That’s how the enemy challenges God to make you fall on his trap. But it’s God’s love that guards and protects us.
Years ago, there was a young preacher, who was always criticizing other servants of God. He used to slander me and the ministry, for no reason at all. In due course, I forgot about this. One night, my telephone rang and he was there on the other side of the phone. He was crying profusely. He said, “My only daughter is on death bed because of tumor in her head. I cannot lose her. Please help me”. I couldn’t believe that he, who had been slandering me, was crying so pathetically. I did not know what to do. According to Romans 5:5, the Holy Spirit poured out His love into me. On one side I was very angry to hear his voice, but on the other side the love of God flooded out of me. Without my knowledge, I said, ‘Brother tomorrow morning your daughter shall be well’. He said, “Brother, tomorrow morning is the operation; they are going to open her skull” But again I said, ‘Tomorrow morning, the tumor will not be there’. He put down the receiver saying that he would contact me again. A great fear came upon me since I felt that I had said so, out of my flesh. The whole night I cried to God and said, ‘Father, forgive me. I am really angry with this man, but am moved by this little girl’s condition. Please forgive me; Show mercy on her…” The Lord Jesus Christ was moved with compassion for her. The next morning when the doctors examined her before the surgery, they could see no trace of tumor in her head. The Lord saved her and kept her alive.
Dear beloveds, Godly love are one of the greatest weapons to travel on this Christian journey. That unconditional love comes from the divine life of Christ and manifested through the life of every believer. Through His Holy spirit we are able to love as Christ loved. Thus blessing those who curse us, praying for those who mistreat us (Luke 6:28) becomes possible only through His love.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
my love is sometimes hard and sometimes soft. I pray that I may live for Christ pouring out His unconditional love to others, to His glory. Give me the grace to love my enemies as Christ loved those who nailed Him on the cross. Help me to say “Father forgives them, for they do not know what they are doing”,
in Jesus name I pray,
Amen.
