Jesus our Comforter Dr. Paul Dhinakaran
“… Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation…” (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4)
Are you wondering, “Who would comfort me in my sufferings? I have lost my loved ones.” Do not worry. You have a good Father in heaven who carries you on His shoulders. He is the very source of life who conquered death! He knows your agony. He will soothe you with His healing balm. So, lean on Him and pour out your heart to Him. He will comfort you as a mother and carry you like a father. The Bible says, “… Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation…” (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4). He will not forsake you, as you are a very precious jewel in His sight.
When I visited a particular country, they showed me a cemetery. In that place, I saw tomb like houses that were built for dead people. They also had photographs of the dead imprinted there and some houses were air-conditioned. The people their told me, “Here, a group of people have a belief that, on death, the spirits of the dead parents will not leave this world; rather it will roam in this world and so they bury the body and build a house over it. During their death anniversary, they would come as a family or sometimes when they feel heartbroken, they come there for comfort. They would sit before the grave of their parents and thinking that their spirits are there, they will keep telling them about their sufferings. They believe that their parents will come and help them.” I was totally astonished to hear it.
Beloved, when disappointments and discouragements had crept into your life unexpectedly and overwhelmed you with life’s pressures, may be you have told to yourself: “This is the end, I can’t move on! Tears have become part of my life.”But keep reminding yourself of the comforting promise of God “Your sorrow will turn into joy” (John 16:20). Your days of sorrow will end (Isaiah 60:20). Do not lose hope for His promises will never falter. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Be assured that there is no suffering beyond the reach of our comforting God. His new mercies are available to you even today. So, throw yourself into His loving and comforting embrace and rest in His peace.
Prayer:
Oh God of all comfort,
Look into my broken heart. I am wading through the waters of trials without anyone to help me. You are my help, refuge and fortress in times of need. I cannot find rest amidst my problems. Even now, I unwind all my problems at Your feet. Minister comfort to my heart through Your presence and words. Heal my wounds and bind my aching heart with your rivers of comfort. I believe that sorrow is not the end of my story. Remember Your promises for me and use me to heal the broken hearts and weary souls. Fill my life with Your joy and peace. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
