Walk in love Bro. D.G.S Dhinakaran
And walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us. (Ephesians 5:2)
Having heard the many works which General William Booth the founder of the Salvation Army had done among the slum people, Queen Victoria of England met him one day and asked him for the secret of his success. “Your Majesty,” he replied, “Some men have a passion for money; some people have a passion for things; I have a passion for people.” Yes, showing love in serving people is a gift from God. Compassion, kindness, humility and gentleness are its pillars. How did Jesus exhibit His love? When He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd (Matthew 9:36). As a good Shepherd, He even laid down His life for us, the sheep. We ought to follow this example and give the best for the sake of blessing others.
Once, I was admitted into a hospital due to my sickness. Many nurses attended to me. They would work for one week; take leave for two days. However, one nurse did not even take a day off and attended to me. I asked her, “Everyone has taken leave and are at home, why don’t you take leave?” She replied, “Sir, last year my father was sick in bed. For several months, I took care of him. He passed away suddenly, and his death broke my heart. I was longing for my father’s love. When you were admitted to this room and when my higher official asked me to take care of you, I was delighted. When I look at you, I am reminded of my father. When I serve you, I feel that I am taking care of my father. That’s why I did not even take a day’s leave and am taking care of you.” On hearing her emotional reply, her genuine compassion melted my heart.
Show to others such godly love that is patient, kind and humble. Irrespective of age, everyone yearns for pure love in this world. Love sustains and refreshes any weary soul. The Bible too reiterates us in Colossians 3:12 as, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Today, examine yourself to find out the ways you can show love and compassion to others. Word of God instructs us to walk in the way of love, as Christ loved us (Ephesians 5:2). Just imitate Jesus in all that you think, say, and do. It would be a sweet-smelling aroma before God.
Prayer:
Dear Lord,
fill my heart with Your love and compassion. Help me to be kind with anyone whom I meet. Give me a tongue that speaks gracious words into others’ lives. Let my actions and gifts touch their hearts and pass rivers of life to quicken them. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
